WASHINGTON ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND NATIONAL GUARD BUREAU
INVITATION TO COMMENT ON THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENT PROJECT FOR CENTRALIA NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY, LEWIS COUNTY, WA
The Washington Army National Guard (WAARNG) proposes an improvement project at the Centralia National Guard Armory, located at 309 Byrd St, Centralia, WA, 98531 with funding from National Guard Bureau, Washington D.C. and Washington State Military Department, Camp Murray, WA. The proposed project would increase energy efficiency, meet ADA and force protection requirements (blast resistant window), repair and preserve building deficiencies, renovate interior kitchen, offices, and bathrooms, and restore the historic building entry.
Consultation with the Washington State Department of Historic Preservation (DAHP) determined that the proposed window replacement would constitute an adverse effect on the historic Armory. However, new windows are required by National Guard security requirements. In consultation with the Department of Historic Preservation, the WAARNG has revised its previously proposed mitigation plan to entail: 1) the preparation of an Historic Structures Report for the historic Olympia Armory and 2) the delivery of two public presentations about the history of the Washington Army National Guard, Associated Armories, and the Centralia Armory. This plan will be agreed upon by all concerned parties, including DAHP and WAARNG, in a Memorandum of Agreement.
The WAARNG invites the public to comment on the proposed mitigation plan for the Centralia National Guard Armory improvement project. Electronic comments must be received no later than Jan. 28, 2019. Mailed written comments must be postmarked on or before Jan. 28, 2019. To request a copy of the plan, or to submit comments, please contact the Washington Military Department, Elizabeth Murphy, (253) 512-8704, Elizabeth.murphy@mil.wa.gov.
